At this time, there are no dietary restrictions or food allergies.
If you would like to provide a meal, please sign up here.
As many of you may know, Venezuela suffered devastating earthquakes last week, and communities there are in urgent need of assistance. Our denomination, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship is currently supporting relief efforts there. If you would like to contribute, you can do so here.
As many of you know, there has been a reduction of SNAP benefits that will affect over 770,000 children. As a church, we have partnered with DEAM (Decatur-area Emergency Assistance Ministry) to help provide food and support to families affected by this crisis. DEAM accepts financial contributions, food donations, and is always in need of volunteers. You may give to DEAM via our website here -- being sure to select “DEAM” under the fund section.
Seeking The Kingdom will be conducting an in-depth study of Ecclesiastes, one of history’s most enduring collections of ancient wisdom. STK takes a scholarly approach to teaching the text while relying on class participants to interpret and share their personal insights and applications. This series will run from July 12 through November 15. Everyone is invited to come and explore this sacred text with us. Registration is not required. If you’re interested in hearing about your favorite text passage in Ecclesiastes, please email Theron Clark Stuart the dates that your favorite text will be discussed.
EVENTS //
Join us for the Beloved Community Book Club, a space for thoughtful conversation, learning, and building community through the power of books. Together, we’ll explore stories and ideas that invite us to reflect more deeply on faith, justice, compassion, and the world around us.
You don’t have to attend every meeting to participate. We encourage you to choose the book(s) that resonate most with you, or, if you’re feeling ambitious, read all four and join us for every discussion! Whichever you choose, please give yourself enough time to read the book and come prepared to share in the conversation on the scheduled discussion date.
The book club will meet on the second Saturday of each month from 10AM–12PM in the Church Parlor. We will be reading the following books:
September 12
Brian Goldstone, There is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America (2026 Pulitzer Prize Winner for Nonfiction) (426 pages) (https://a.co/d/0hmmZlNj)
October 10
Rev. Sen. Raphael Warnock, The Crooked Places Made Straight: Reflections on the Moral Meaning of America (2026) (223 pages) (https://a.co/d/00VYQGMg)
November 14
Alice Walker, We Are the Ones We Have Been Waiting For: Inner Light in a Time of Darkness (2021) (273 pages) (https://a.co/d/0a1Xvtvo)
December 12
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., The Trumpet of Conscience (speeches and sermons from 1967-1968) (2010) (96 pages) (https://a.co/d/0dxPcpBF)
