  • PICTURE BOOK

    • Home in a Lunchbox by Cherry Moe
A Caldecott Honor winner, this is a touching immigrant story that hits the heart and stomach. Jun, a young Chinese girl, moves from Hong Kong to America and starts school knowing only a few English words like hello, thank you, and I don’t know. She feels isolated until she unpacks her lunchbox and shares her delicious food with her classmates. Minimum text and stunning illustrations highlight the impact of small gestures of kindness.

  • JUVENILE FICTION

    • Mrs. Smith’s Spy School for Girls by Beth McMullen

Abigail “discovers that her boarding school is actually an elite spy-training program, and she must learn the skills of the trade in order to find her mother in this action-packed middle grade debut.” Donated by Joyce Cotton.

  • ADULT FICTION

    • James by Percival Everett
“A brilliant reimagining of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - both harrowing and ferociously funny - told from the enslaved Jim’s point-of-view.” “When Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he runs away until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck has faked his own death to escape his violent father….Thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the promise of the Free State and beyond.” Donated by Beth Withers.

  • ADULT NON-FICTION

    • The Wingmen: The Unlikely, Unusual, Unbreakable Friendship Between John Glenn and Ted Williams The Extraordinary Lives of Winston and Clementine’s Daughters by Adam Lazarus
“In many ways, John Glenn and Ted Williams were dissimilar. But they shared the essential traits of bravery, loyalty, devotion to excellence, and despite political differences, authentic patriotism. Carefully researched and skillfully rendered, this is the compelling story of the enduring bond between two genuine American heroes.” Bob Costas, award-winning sportscaster. Donated by Kay and Ronnie Jowers.
