Songwriting from Scratch: A free workshop for grades 6-12

Date & Time: Saturday, February 21, 1:00-3:00 pm
Location:
First Baptist Church of Decatur

Join us for a free songwriting workshop!  Starting from a simple hummed or sung melody, students will learn how songs are built step by step, from the first idea to a finished track. We’ll explore songwriting, basic arrangement, and music production using accessible tools, with a strong focus on creativity, listening, and personal expression. The goal is to show students that if they have an idea, then they already have what they need to start writing music.

Peyman Salimi, one of DFAA’s guitar instructors, will be leading the workshop. He is an active singer-songwriter, composer, music producer, and performer who is currently conducting research at the Computational and Cognitive Musicology Lab at Georgia Tech.

This workshop is designed for middle and high school students (grades 6-12) of all instruments/voices and will be at First Baptist Church of Decatur. We highly encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity to work with Peyman - and bring a friend!
