The Loveliness in Front of Us

The natural world is coming back to life. With this daily emerging beauty, I hope you can take a little time to notice some of the lovely details unfolding around us. Daffodils, buds on trees, azaleas and rose bushes preparing to show off their beauty in a few weeks ... all this and so much more provides a feast for the eyes and the soul.

This is all true, if we can pay attention, even for a moment. Attentiveness to God’s gift of early spring awakening is especially important with all the social strains besetting us.  On the airwaves, news, social media and errant conversations we hear and overhear, attitudes and superficial voices of pettiness dull our spiritual awareness. Our own attitudes sour in response, defensiveness becomes our posture, anger seethes and the tendency to see with eyes of disdain and disrespect rises.

Instead, for us in these early days of March, may the loveliness of God’s world returning to the colors of life stimulate again that deep part of ourselves most awake to the subtleties of nature’s gifts.

May we be blessed today, with lessened anxiety and increased gratitude, by simply seeing more clearly what is right in front of each one of us.

Love,

David
