Help and Care

Our mission statement includes the conviction that we exist to “serve Decatur and the world in the way of Jesus.” This page is about ways we try to help and care for folks in this church and in the City of Decatur.

Pastoral Care

If you call this church home and you are in the hospital or you experience a loss, First Baptist Decatur will be there for you. It may be a pastor who visits you, or a deacon, or a member of your small group. To let us know you need help, please call 404-373-1653 or any pastor or lay leader. If you know of someone else who needs the church, please call and tell us. We would rather get many calls about the same situation than to learn later that someone was in need and we couldn’t respond because we didn’t know.

Our pastors are also available by appointment when you need someone to listen and pray with you. We don’t do long-term therapy but we will help you find someone who does. The Verdery Counseling Center located on the church campus has qualified therapists who can give you the professional help you need.

The Senior Care Team visits and sends cards to senior adults who are not able to get out.  Contact Jim Manley via email or call 404-373-1653 and leave a message for him.

Verdery Counseling Center

A private outside entry welcomes counseling clients to a warm and welcoming space. The center is open to the public by appointment with highly qualified therapists. By appointment only. Contact Monique Wischusen  (404) 369-1041.

At First Baptist Church, we are honored to assist you in remembering and celebrating the life of your loved one. We know this is a difficult time and we want to do all we can to make this significant service an occasion of worship and gratitude to God for the gift of life.

We love weddings!  We would be honored to be a part of your big day.

For more information on the church's facilities available for your wedding ceremony, reception or rehearsal dinner, please contact the church office.

Personal Money Management

Financial Peace University – Tifanie Haun  At First Baptist Decatur we recognize that financial difficulties have many causes and that many wise and frugal people are in a less than ideal financial situation. Also, there are a variety of views among the members of First Baptist as to the role of government in the creation of a healthy society. We teach Financial Peace University because we have found that it is one effective method to get rid of debt and save for the future.
