Weekly Letter from the Pastor — March 6, 2017

March 6, 2017

Dear FBCD Family:

When we started our new First Baptist University program in January, I knew we were taking a risk of the "if you build it, they will come" variety. Trusting God, still we had to offer good and interesting classes and support groups, publicize them in the church and in the Decatur community, and then hope that the crowds would come.

While not every class/group got large numbers, we did sustain a tripling of our Wednesday night attendance. Far more importantly, we offered programs that met real intellectual, spiritual, emotional, financial, and physical needs.

Buoyed by the strong response to our seven offerings in Winter, we now are offering ELEVEN FBU Spring courses. If you think of them in three main categories—study groups, support groups, and life skill groups, our offerings look like this:

Study Groups:
Understanding How the Bible Was Developed II: From Canon Formation to Our English Bibles. Bill Fulkerson.
The Epistle of James. Keith Pierce.
Restorative Justice II: The Death Penalty. Linsey Addington.

Support Groups:
LGBTQ Support Group. Amelia Markham and Theron Clark-Stuart.
Loving Those Addicted. Larry Connelly, Debra Dantzler, Rob Stanback.

Life Skills Groups:
Basic Computer Skills. Randall Hampton, Katie Base Roberts, Aaron McGinnis.
Marriage Enrichment. Monique Wischusen.
Total Body Conditioning. Kristian Smith.
Voice Class for Adults. Kathryn Hartgrove.

Then of course we have our enhanced FBU Children and FBU Youth programs as well. That makes ELEVEN.

I think we can be very grateful to God for the way the FBU program is growing, based on strong response so far, volunteers stepping forward to lead, and the needs of our church and community. I do hope that all members of the FBCD family will do their very best to come to FBU and invite others who might benefit from a program we are offering.

I hope you have a wonderful week, keeping in mind God's great love for us in Jesus Christ.

In Him,
Pastor David
