Weekly Letter from the Pastor — October 10

October 10, 2016

Dear FBCD Friends,

My first few weeks as your interim pastor have been a joy—and a whirlwind! Thank you for reaching out to me, sending me those family pictures, inviting me to your Sunday School classes, and in every other way offering me your support. I am very grateful.

I wanted to ask you to do your best to be in church the next five Sundays, from October 16 to November 13. I am offering a series of sermons based on the five goals I have established for our church in this next season of our church's life.

What Does Success Look Like for FBCD

October 16    Excellent Worship — Psalm 8, Hebrews 4:12-13
October 23    Energetic Pastoral Care — Psalm 23, Matthew 9:35-38
October 30    Embracing Our Community —Hebrews 13:1-3, Matthew 28:16-20
November 6    Economic Planning and Christian Values — Proverbs 11:24-25, Luke 12:42-48
November 13    Expectation of Growth — Acts 2:42-47

Each of these sermons will reflect biblically on these really important goals, while also talking practically about specific steps we will be taking to make progress toward them. The messages, and plans, are being developed in consultation with the relevant committees and leaders in the congregation.

Besides recording the messages and posting the link each week, as we always do, I am also going to be sure the texts of these sermons are also posted on our website, linked to this weekly letter, and available in print version in the church office if you stop by. I am also planning to lead discussions on Wednesday night on the topic of the previous Sunday sermon. So come on by!

May God bless you as you seek to serve Christ faithfully this week.

Be a blessing to everyone you meet this week!

In Christ’s love,
David Gushee
Interim Pastor
