Called Congregational Meeting
May 21 at 10 a.m. in Carreker (Fellowship) Hall

The following offers important information related to the called Congregational Meeting on Sunday, May 21.

The primary purpose of the meeting on the 21st will be to present the name of a prospective new full-time Minister to Families with Children. Since this is a ministerial staff position, our bylaws require a vote by the congregation at a called meeting, as the culmination of a process specified further in the bylaws.

The Deacons and the Finance committee, on Tuesday the 16th, will be given the opportunity to vote on this recommendation that comes from the Search Committee for a Minister to Families with Children (chaired by Lisa Tyler), and from the Personnel Committee (chaired by Bill Neal), with the approval already of the Interim Pastor, as per the bylaws. After Tuesday's votes, if the candidate is approved, a resume will be sent to the congregation for review prior to Sunday the 21st.

The prospective new Minister to Families with Children will have a brief word of introduction in the Fresh Start worship service on the 21st and will be introduced also in the 10 a.m. meeting.  After the congregational meeting, an introduction will be planned for the Sanctuary Service at 11:15 as is appropriate.

The decision to move from a part-time to a full-time Minister to Families with Children was made last year by the Personnel Committee, in order to enable our congregation to do all that we can to reach out to and serve young families in our church and community. We are deeply grateful for over four years of committed service in a part-time children's ministry role on the part of Dale Doud. Dale has family commitments that make it impossible for him to serve in the full-time ministerial role as we have envisioned it. Knowing this, we commenced a search for a full-time minister. After reviewing many candidates, we are confident in our selection.

If the new full-time children's minister is approved, Dale's last day of service at First Decatur will be June 30, 2017. Dale was offered an opportunity to continue in a different role on the church staff through the end of 2017, but has chosen to accept a severance offer instead.

Relevant church officers will be present at the congregational meeting and happy to discuss all of these matters.
