FBCD has called Matt Snyder, 32, a pending graduate of the McAfee School of Theology, to a newly created one-year position as Pastoral Resident for Young Adult Ministry.
Matt is a graduate of Friends University in Kansas. He has served successfully as a youth minister, worship leader, and overseas missionary, working primarily with trafficking abolition efforts. At McAfee, Matt has studied in the Christian Social Ethics track, from which he will graduate in May. Matt also has extensive experience in social media, communications, and branding. Matt is married to Merridith, who works for MailChimp, a popular email marketing company.
This Pastoral Resident post is a new innovation at FBCD, something of a hybrid between an internship and a salaried staff position. The candidate, recommended by Interim Pastor David Gushee, has met with and been affirmed strongly by the Personnel Committee. Funding has been provided both by the First Baptist Foundation and the Church through its personnel budget.
The purpose of this position is to strengthen the ministry of FBCD to young adults in the Decatur area and beyond. This will involve both going to young adults, meeting them where they are, and also helping our church offer programming of various types that will attract young adults to Christ and to our church. This initiative, together with our search for a new full time Minister to Families with Children, indicates the seriousness with which FBCD is attempting to serve young adults and young families.
Matt will begin his new role on January 30. His first Sunday will be February 5. Please greet him warmly!
