Qualifications and Safety

First Baptist Decatur recognizes that a safe and healthy children's care program is one where learning and development thrive.

All the staff at FBCD Camp programs are certified in CPR and First Aid and are required to complete a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education every year.  Several of the counselors have been working at FBCD Camp for over 5 years and most have previous child care experience. All employees have up to date background checks.

Entry to FBCD Camp is code protected except for the front entrance during operational hours when a staff member is present in the front office or foyer.

At FBCD Camp, transportation safety is of utmost importance. All drivers are at least 21 years of age and have participated in a transportation training provided by Bright from the Start and four plus hours of road tests. The vans are equipped with booster seats for children who are under 60 pounds or under the age of 8 years.

All students are required to wear fastened seat belts anytime the vans are running.

During the Summer Camp, parents are required to complete a swim readiness form for each camper and each camper will complete a swim test at the pool before they are allowed in the deeper areas. taffer/camper ratio is increased during visits to the swimming pool.

Emergency information on each child is kept in the office and also travels with the child on the vans and on field trips. Procedures for medical and safety emergencies are written and practiced.  In the case of an acute illness, parents will be asked to pick up their child as soon as possible. FBCD Camp follows a 24 hour wellness rule, 24 free of symptoms including fever, and the child may attend the next full school day.
